State of New York City’s Housing and Neighborhoods in 2024

The State of New York City’s Housing and Neighborhoods report, published annually by the NYU Furman Center, provides a compendium of data and analysis about New York City’s housing, land use, demographics, and quality of life for each borough and each of the city’s 59 community districts.

Focus

Federal Housing Programs in New York City

This year’s focus report examines how federal funding is used to support housing and homelessness programs in New York City, and considers the potential impact of proposed federal cuts on New York City’s renters, building owners, homeowners, and neighborhoods. The report also assesses the Opportunity Zone program, to evaluate whether its tax incentives have meaningfully contributed to housing development across the five boroughs given current federal discussions to expand the program.
