The State of New York City’s Housing and Neighborhoods report, published annually by the NYU Furman Center, provides a compendium of data and analysis about New York City’s housing, land use, demographics, and quality of life for each borough and the city’s 59 community districts.

About This Tool

New York City’s Low-Density Neighborhoods

This year’s Focus explores the demographics of households in New York City’s low-density neighborhoods, including a closer look at renter and owner households. It also examines the current land use in those neighborhoods and analyzes changes in new housing development over the last decade.

Citywide Data

This section provides a broad, longitudinal analysis of New York City’s housing and neighborhoods. The chapter is divided into four parts: income distribution, racial/ethnic composition, citywide indicators, and citywide indicators, by race/ethnicity.

This year’s Focus report explores the diversity of New York City’s low-density neighborhoods, including the people who live in them, the housing stock of low-density neighborhoods, and the state of land use regulations in these areas. It also examines the market rate and affordable housing stock in these neighborhoods. The report sheds light on a broader conversation focused on adding new supply in the midst of a housing crisis, and how all communities can participate in this effort.
