Summary
- Shortens timeframes for various local government approvals of subdivision plats and site plans, specifically shortening:
- When a local planning commission or agent needs to forward proposed plat to an appropriate state agency for approval of features of the plat from 10 business days to five business days,
- When a local planning commission or agent needs to act on a proposed plat, site plan or plan of development from 60 days to 40 days after submission,
- When the state agency or public authority needs to complete the review of a plat forwarded to it from 45 days to 30 days of receipt,
- When a state agency needs to act upon a preliminary subdivision plat after approval from state agencies from 35 to 20 days.
- Requires the Virginia Code Commission to convene a work group consisting of various housing stakeholders, including the Home Builders Association of Virginia, Virginia REALTORS, and Virginia Chapter of the American Planning Association, to review existing provisions related to the submission, review, and approval of subdivisions plats and site plans, and develop recommendations to streamline the process.
- Requires the Virginia Code Commission to submit a report of the work group’s recommendations to the General Assembly by November 1st, 2025.
