Summary
- Exempts the cost of constructing an accessory dwelling unit from property taxes for three years after completion of the ADU.
- ADU may be either attached to or within the single-family dwelling or a detached unit on the same real property to qualify for the exemption.
- The Department of Revenue must work with county assessors to evaluate the home improvement exemption and report their findings to the Legislature by November 15, 2020. Review must include analysis of the types of properties and the value of exempt improvements by geographic area to develop a better understanding of the exemption.
