DEMOGRAPHICS
In the 2017-18 school year, there were about 23,841 students in District 11. 8.0% of the student population identified as Asian, 41.5% identified as Black, 38.8% identified as Hispanic, and 9.7% identified as white. The average Economic Needs Index (ENI) was 0.76 and 14.9% of students were in temporary housing. Additionally, 10.0% of public elementary school students attended charter schools and 90.0% attended traditional public schools.

RACIAL/ETHNIC DIVERSITY IN SCHOOLS
In the 2017-18 school year, 47.1% of all public elementary school students attended Black-Hispanic schools, 27.3% attended other categories of racially/ethnically diverse schools, and 25.7% of students attended predominantly one-group schools. These patterns varied by racial/ethnic group. Asian students were most likely to attend Black-Hispanic-Asian schools, Black students were most likely to attend Black-Hispanic schools, Hispanic students were most likely to attend Black-Hispanic school, and white students were most likely to attend Hispanic-white schools.

Furthermore, Black-Hispanic schools had, on average, the highest share of students in temporary housing while Hispanic-white schools had the lowest (17.7% and 9.3% respectively). Hispanic-Asian schools had the highest ENI (0.86) and Hispanic-white schools had the lowest ENI (0.61).

THE STABILITY OF RACIALLY/ETHNICALLY DIVERSE SCHOOLS
Between the 2005-06 school year and the 2017-18 school year, 84.2% of diverse schools remained in the same category. Hispanic-white schools were the most likely to remain in the same diverse school category during this time period. Additionally, across all diverse schools, the Asian share increased by 2.7 percentage points, the Black share decreased by 8.8 percentage points, the Hispanic share increased by 3.9 percentage points, and the white share increased by 1.2 percentage points.
