Summary
- Provides a comprehensive wildfire framework. Requires the development of a statewide map of wildfire risk that displays wildfire risk classes and an interactive mapping tool that displays, at the property level, wildfire hazard mitigation standards and supports the future inclusion of snow load, seismic and wind building code standards.
- Requires the establishment of minimum requirements for defensible spaces, or areas meant to slow and suppress wildfires. Allows local governments to adopt more stringent defensible space requirements.
- Minimum defensible space requirements cannot be used to approve or deny land use or planning applications or decisions.
- Mandates updates to statewide land use planning programs and local plans and codes needed to include wildfire risk maps and minimize wildfire risk.
- Requires the adoption of wildfire hazard mitigation building code standards.
- Requires the development of a program to reduce wildfire risk through the restoration of landscape resiliency and the reduction of hazardous fuel on public or private forestlands and rangelands and in communities near homes and critical infrastructure.
