Summary
- Allows the reconstruction of buildings that no longer comply with current zoning or building codes (“nonconforming use”) if its use was abandoned or interrupted during the time of a federal, state or local emergency order.
- Extends this exemption until September 30, 2025. Cities and counties must allow the commencement of restoration or replacement of nonconforming uses that were damaged or destroyed by the September 2020 wildfires, and sunsets that provision January 2, 2026.
