Summary
- Authorizes the Housing and Community Services Department to grant money to nonprofit organizations for accessory dwelling unit (ADU) community pilot programs that develop accessory dwelling units for income-eligible homeowners and that are available for lease by income-eligible tenants. Sunsets January 2, 2024.
- Some conditions of the pilot program include:
- An assessment of the suitability of an eligible homeowner’s property for siting and construction of an ADU.
- Assistance with the financing, documentation, siting, construction and cleanup of an ADU.
- Identification and screening into lease agreements with eligible tenants of the ADUs.
- Professional property management services.
- A requirement that eligible homeowners maintain the ADU as affordable to eligible tenants for at least 10 years.
- Requires department to report on ADU community pilot programs to the interim committee of the Legislative Assembly no later than September 15, 2023.
- Appropriates money to the department for a grant to be awarded to Hacienda Community Development Corporation.
