Summary
- Adds preservation of affordable housing units through extension of existing project-based rental assistance covenants to the definition of “prohousing local policies.” This change allows local jurisdictions that preserve affordable housing through extended rental assistance covenants to receive a prohousing designation from the Department of Housing and Community Development.
- Jurisdictions with housing elements in substantial compliance that receive prohousing designation qualify for additional points or preference in scoring applications for state housing and infrastructure programs. Preservation through extended covenants aims to avoid displacement of affected tenants and reduction in available affordable housing units.
