Using Faith-Based Land to Expand Housing Supply: Can Religious Institutions Help Solve the Housing Shortage?
As New York State considers the “Faith-Based Affordable Housing Act,” a proposal to require local governments to allow more multifamily housing on FBO-owned land, a panel of legal experts and practitioners dissected the potential opportunities and challenges associated with leveraging such properties for housing development in New York. They explored the lessons learned from the adoption of similar policies in other jurisdictions that can help New York’s policymakers closely consider this potential strategy.
