Summary
- Establishes a program for converting abandoned school buildings into affordable housing. Municipalities with less than 10% affordable housing must provide information on any abandoned school buildings to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; municipalities with more than 10% affordable housing may opt in to the program. The Secretary of Housing and a task force assess feasibility, and, if conversion is appropriate, the Office of Housing and Community Development identifies and invites prospective developers and provides assistance to them in executing the conversion, including technical and financial assistance.
